Basic requirements
Important: Please read through the instructions at least once completely before actually following them to avoid any problems because you missed something!
- Make sure your computer has working
adb
. Setup instructions can be found here. - Enable USB debugging on your device.
Special requirements
Warning:
Your device must be on bootloader version
VS98510B
/ VS98512B
, otherwise the instructions found in this page will not work.
The current bootloader version can be checked by running the command getprop ro.bootloader
in a terminal app or an adb shell
from a command prompt or terminal window.
Rooting your device
Important: The device must be rooted before proceeding any further.
- Root your device by following this guide.
Installing a custom recovery using dd
- Download a custom recovery - you can download TWRP, simply search for your device on that page and download the corresponding
recovery file, named something like
twrp-3.0.0-vs985.img
. - Place the recovery image file on the root of
/sdcard
:- Using adb:
adb push twrp-3.0.0-vs985.img /sdcard/twrp-vs985.img
Tip: The file may not be named identically to what’s in this command. Adjust accordingly.- You can use any method you are comfortable with.
adb
is universal across all devices, and works both in Android and recovery mode, providing USB debugging is enabled.
- Using adb:

Now, open an
adb shell
from a command prompt or terminal window. In that shell, type the following commands:su dd if=/sdcard/twrp-vs985.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
- Manually reboot into recovery:
- Volume Down & Power
Note: Ignore the screen asking about a factory reset. If you have done everything correctly, accepting a factory reset will not actually reset your device.
Installing LineageOS from recovery

Download the LineageOS install package that you’d like to install or build the package yourself.
- Optionally, download 3rd party application packages like Google Apps
- Place the LineageOS
.zip
package, as well as any other .zip packages on the root of/sdcard
:- Using adb:
adb push filename.zip /sdcard/
- You can use any method you are comfortable with.
adb
is universal across all devices, and works both in Android and recovery mode, providing USB debugging is enabled.
- Using adb:
- If you aren’t already in recovery, boot into recovery:
- Volume Down & Power
- (Optional, but recommended): Select the Backup button to create a backup.
- Select Wipe and then Advanced Wipe.
- Select Cache, System and Data partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe.
- Go back to return to main menu, then select Install.
- Navigate to
/sdcard
, and select the LineageOS.zip
package. - Follow the on-screen prompts to install the package.
- (Optional): Install any additional packages using the same method.
Note: If you want any Google Apps on your device, you must follow this step before the first reboot!
- (Optional): Root the device by installing the LineageOS su add-on (use the
arm
package) or using any other method you prefer. - Once installation has finished, return to the main menu, select Reboot, and then System.
